Orinda mom. Recovering attorney.

Improv champion.

An unspeakably long time ago, I auditioned on a whim for the country’s longest running college improv troupe, My Mother’s Fleabag, just a few weeks after arriving as a Freshman at Boston College.  After playing 90210’s Brenda Walsh in a game of Party Quirks in my first ever improv show, I was madly, deeply in love with this great American artform.

From 2006 to 2013, I studied, performed, and coached long-form improv at Washington Improv Theater.  I became a mainstay on the WIT stage, performing with several ensembles (JINX, Commonwealth, Jackie) and in various marquee shows like the Neutrino Video Project and POTUS Among US.  I was the first two-time champion of WIT’s Fighting Improv Smackdown Tournament, slaying countless foes with my teams Polygamy (2008) and Not Mad, Disappointed (2009).  I also appeared in several award-winning improvised films as part of the Washington DC 48 Hour Film Project.

After moving to the Bay Area in 2014, I played with Synergy Theater and Pan Theater, before finding Improv love again with indie teams Jurassic Pope and Social Studies Improv.  Those teams found a home at All Out Comedy in Oakland.

While stuck at home in 2020, I taught my then nine-year-old daughter, Agnes, how to improvise.  My team, Jurassic Pope, entered the fictional character Kaley Gurlbaus, played by Agnes, as a candidate in WIT’s 2020 virtual comedy presidential election. Kaley / Agnes wound up being elected improv President of the United States, beating out a whole bunch of teams helmed by adult candidates.

In addition to teaching improv classes to kids and adults in Lamorinda, I currently coach the Oakland-based indie team Party Onward, a Dungeon and Dragons themed improv adventure.

I have performed improv across the country, including at the Chicago Improv Festival, the Del Close Marathon in New York, the Dirty South Improv Festival, the San Francisco Improv Fest, and WIT’s Improvapalooza. I have improvised on stage with puppets, live animals, and wearing my infant in a baby bjorn. I love improv, and all its messy, scary, explosive moments of discovering together.
